What drives success? You do! With the right amount of focus, a determination to succeed and a few tactics to keep you on track, there is no doubt you can accomplish your career goals.

Here are 10 keywords that can help inspire and push you forwards.

1. Consistency

A significant element of success is meeting your objectives reliably and consistently. It is essential to be organised with a fixed schedule, perhaps utilising time blocking to stay on track. Always prioritise your workload to get the most important tasks done first and avoid firefighting.


Success is derived from the completion of lots of small goals. Break more significant projects or tasks down into smaller, more achievable targets that can be programmed into your days.  By setting yourself a list of achievable targets each day, you will be challenging yourself to remain productive while also acknowledging your accomplishments.

3. Relationships 

Take time to build strong, supportive working relationships. A business is nothing without its people, so to fully understand how it works and succeed within it, you will need to know all your colleagues.

4. Emotions

Are you aware of your feelings? Can you identify what inspires you to be productive or what leads to feelings of overwhelm? It is vital to be emotionally intelligent so that your feelings and passion can work for you rather than against you.

5. Actions

Successful people are active, not passive. They are aware of their surroundings and act when needed, so don’t be afraid to seize an opportunity when it presents itself, even if it means going against the grain a little.

6. Positivity

Negativity breeds negativity, so if you look for the positive in everything you do, it will reflect in your attitude to life and work. Always be pushing forward and noting your successes. Learn from your stumbles but don’t dwell on them.

7. Health

Your body and your mind are not separate entities. It’s vital to eat well, stay hydrated and exercise regularly. A healthy mind and body can impact every area of your life; stress is easier to handle, your concentration is greatly improved and you can always work to the best of your ability.

8. Mindfulness

Being present and aware of your surroundings and emotions is the key to the clarity of mind. A great way to do this is to practice mindfulness; acknowledge the beauty in your day, the small wins and the big ones, the improvements you can implement, the good deeds done and the positive progress you are making.      

9. Improvement

You can always get better at what you do. None of us has all the answers and with industry moving so quickly these days, there is always something new to learn. Having the motivation to keep improving will help drive you towards your goals.

10. Early

Starting work early can help you be more productive than starting later in the day. Even if you think you’re more of a night owl, you can train yourself to be an early riser by setting a regular sleep/wake schedule. For an extra productivity boost, get stuck into difficult or complex tasks early on when you are fresh and save the mundane or more superficial tasks for later in the day.
