Internal Recruiter / Talent Acquisition Specialist

Department: HR / People
Location: Birmingham - Office‑based with hybrid working (up to 2 days per week remote)
Reporting to: HR Manager
Hours: 40 per week (9:00-17:30), permanent

My client is a leading organisation within the surveying and engineering sector, specialising in land surveys, measured building surveys, underground utility mapping, and a wide range of monitoring and site engineering services. The business operates through a network of offices across the UK, with teams supporting major construction and infrastructure projects nationwide.

Role Overview

This role plays a key part in identifying, attracting and hiring talent across the organisation. You will manage the full recruitment life cycle, from candidate sourcing and screening to coordinating interviews and supporting offer stages.

Working closely with hiring managers, you will shape job descriptions, write job adverts and design structured interview processes aligned with best practice. A proactive approach is essential, including online sourcing, building talent pipelines and ensuring roles are filled efficiently.

You will contribute to a strong employer brand while ensuring candidates receive a professional, timely and positive recruitment experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute attraction strategies for roles at all levels.
  • Write job descriptions, adverts and person specifications in partnership with hiring managers.
  • Advertise vacancies across internal platforms, job boards and social media.
  • Manage and promote the employee referral programme.
  • Proactively source candidates through online channels and the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
  • Screen CVs and applications; conduct phone and first/second‑stage interviews.
  • Provide regular updates to hiring managers and HR on vacancy progress.
  • Evaluate candidates based on interview and assessment outcomes.
  • Respond to candidate queries and provide constructive feedback where appropriate.
  • Attend careers events and deliver presentations to promote the organisation and career pathways.
  • Support onboarding activities in partnership with the HR team.
  • Liaise with external recruitment partners and maintain communication on vacancies.
  • Ensure all vacancies follow the correct approval process and the ATS is kept updated.
  • Support candidates throughout the process, delivering a seamless and engaging experience.
  • Train and guide hiring managers on recruitment best practice and policy compliance.

Person Specification

Experience / Knowledge

  • Proven experience in an internal recruitment or agency recruitment role (minimum 2 years).
  • Strong understanding of full‑cycle recruitment and best practice.
  • Skilled in using ATS platforms (experience with Workable is beneficial).
  • Confident using a range of interview formats.
  • Strong sourcing skills, including identifying and attracting passive candidates.
  • Experience with technical recruitment is desirable.

Qualifications / Additional Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Full, clean driving licence.
  • Ability to commute and work across multiple office locations as required.
  • Educated to A‑Level or equivalent; further HR‑related certification is desirable.
