We are seeking an Assistant Research Manager for a 3-month contract to join our Application & Funding team at the University of Southampton, The first point of contact for NIHR research funding applicants.
The team is responsible for:
- Scheduling and launching new funding opportunities
- Managing and overseeing peer review of applications
- Scrutinising applications and flagging issues to panels/boards
- Supporting applicants and organising external advisory meetings
- Managing panel membership for shortlisting and funding decisions
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery and improvement of research management processes
- Oversee and delegate administrative tasks, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Provide advice and guidance to applicants and stakeholders
- Organise meetings and coordinate logistics
- Maintain high-quality data on relevant systems
- Contribute to continuous process improvement
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience managing multiple priorities and working to tight deadlines
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a team
- Confident in providing advice to stakeholders and applicants
- A-levels/NVQ3 or equivalent experience
Desirable:
- Experience in research administration or funding
- Health background (useful but not essential)
