Tate Recruitment are delighted to be working alongside a local authority business to recruit for a Payroll Officer based in Brighton.

Payroll Officer

  • £13.93- £14.91ph
  • 12 month contract
  • Full time- 37 hours per week
  • Hybrid working opportunity- office based in Brighton

Role Purpose

To provide a customer focused payroll and pensions administration service to staff, managers and external customers dealing with a wide range of queries and providing support relating to the accurate and timely payment of all staff.

To maintain the accuracy and integrity of establishment, payroll, and pensions data in accordance with statutory legislation, council policies and best practice.

The Role

  • Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of payroll information by collating, calculating, and entering data and updating records with changes in employee details or positions
  • To ensure accurate financial reporting through to the General Ledger
  • Accurately identifying, calculating, and applying tax and National Insurance payment deductions
  • Applying accuracy checking and correcting exception errors to ensure that payroll is run accurately and on time
  • To understand national and local policies affecting pay, and to be able to identify any discrepancies in the way
  • To accurately make necessary and timely adjustments to salaries resulting from pay awards and incremental progression, and calculating overtime, salary increases and shift payments
  • To be responsible for receiving and resolving, where appropriate, customer contacts to the service
  • To identify customers' enquiries promptly and proactively, to provide the appropriate response or escalate, signpost or refer to other services

What you will need:

  • A minimum of 2 years Payroll experience
  • Working knowledge of Midland iTrent is desirable but not essential
