Lab Technician Southampton £14.04 per hour 9am - 5pm (some flexibility) Temporary to Permanent

The university of Southampton are currently looking for a Lab Technician to come into the role as a long-term candidate. Please read the below and if you feel you have the experience to succeed in the role, please feel free to apply.

Accountabilities

  • Assist with the electrical safety testing of labs and Zepler Institute areas in B46.
  • Support mechanical workshop activities in B46. Including producing technical drawings, machining components, basic tool servicing, general workplace quality.
  • Carry out (where appropriate) the installation of lab components and services, advising on safety elements of all installations. Including lab services, modifications to layouts, and general laboratory modifications.
  • Carry out regulatory compliance checking, including production of required reports and information where required.
  • Ensure statutory paperwork required within the Infrastructure team in B46, including Standard Operating Procedures, Risk Assessments and Method Statements are completed and maintained.
  • Contractor supervision duties within B46.
  • Attend meetings, as appropriate.
  • Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder.

Experience/Skills

  • Skill level equivalent to achievement of HNC, A-Level, NVQ3.
  • Completed a recognised apprenticeship, preferably mechanical.
  • Ability to make effective use of standard and specialist computer systems
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of technical processes relating to work area.
  • Experience of data input and analysing data and presenting summary information in a clear and concise format.
  • Great teamwork
  • Able to effectively organise allocated work activities and assist in the effective organisation of non-standard tasks and events.
  • Ability to work well with minimum supervision.
