Logistics Controller About

The Shipping & Logistics Coordinator is responsible for ensuring a smooth and faultless end to end supply chain process delivered to our Customers and that the OTIF and other service targets are met through the daily operational management of our 3PL and international service providers and the effective communication with the Customer and wider business teams. They will track the performance of the 3PL and international service providers and drive improvements through weekly and monthly meetings as well as on a day to day basis.

Key accountabilities
  • Achieve On Time and In Full service metrics for all Customers by placing their bookings with the shipping line, liaising with hauliers and tracking deliveries.
  • Proactively manage the order process from start to finish on the ERP system
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external Customers
  • Attend Customer meetings to drive the clients Supply Chain profile
  • Identify new opportunities to streamline the logistics process, take an ownership and make accountable decisions to ensure delivery of excellent service
  • Identify and analyse potential backhaul efficiencies within our Customer base
  • Control the UK secondary distribution with the 3PL including daily order management ensuring cost are minimised whist maintaining agreed service levels
  • Working across the operations team as incidents occur to gain consensus and timely resolution
  • Proactively communicate and distribute information and operational issues across the wider department
  • Minimise out of scope activities and charges
  • Quality control liaison with service providers ensuring that any quality issues are reported and resolved
  • Insure all incidents are logged
  • Responsible for monitoring the return of POD's
  • Primary contact for hauliers regarding any transport issues
  • Highlight any obscurities or issues with costs to Logistics Operations Manager or Managing Director
  • Control the movement of goods in transit to customer's depot, co-ordinating and managing their "on-time and in full" deliveries
  • Build and manage relationships with suppliers to deliver On Time and In Full service to our Customers
  • Ensure loads are allocated to minimise cost while maintaining agreed service levels and managing any out of scope costs with Customers and 3PLs
  • Control the flow of in transit orders, use the logistics planning tool to monitor each order status and ensure hauliers and shipping lines are updating it accordingly
  • Responsible for obtaining Bill of ladings, the return of POD's and organising any Customs clearance.
  • Identify new opportunities for future efficiencies on freight management
  • Ensure delivery processes and guidelines are being followed for UK supply agreements with customers
  • Reconcile charges from customers for either agreed supply agreements and adhoc service charges e.g. (failed deliveries, broken pallets)
  • Compile associated non-performance charges and send to Logistics Operations Manager or Managing Director
  • Ensure all carrier delays and incidents are logged
  • Ensure additional charges and deviations from budget are recorded

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Customer or supplier relationship management exposure
  • Experience in a high volume, detailed and process driven organisation
  • System experience in an ERP environment and intermediate excel skills
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledge of either FMCG or UK or international supply chain logistics
  • Travel within the UK and Europe will be required on an occasional basis.
