FINANCE ASSISTANT

OBJECTIVE:

The main objective of this role is to maintain the bank reconciliations, ensuring that reconciling items are quickly cleared. This role involves analysing the daily movements in our bank accounts, ensuring all payments and receipts are accounted for. The daily cash log needs to be updated every day, which is used by the business to post receipts to customer accounts on Alfa. All payments and receipts need to be correctly allocated on Alfa, and the role is responsible for working proactively with the business to investigate un-allocated cash.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To take full ownership of the bank reconciliation process. This includes:

    1. Being the main point of contact for enquires relating to the identification and allocation of cash
    2. Updating the daily cash log reflecting receipts
    3. Reviewing daily cheque log and preparing paid in books
    4. Safeguarding post-dated cheques not yet banked and keeping a log of these
    5. Managing relationship with the courier including reviewing and approving their invoice
    6. Maintaining a log of unallocated cash
    7. Working with the business to investigate and clear items on the unallocated cash log
    8. At month end, updating the bank Balance Sheet Reconciliations
    9. Sending regular updates on reconciling items, ensuring all items are allocated to a named individual for investigation and clearance
    10. Working with the named individual to investigate and clear items
    11. Returning un-allocated receipts to the customer once all efforts to allocate have been exhausted
    12. Arranging for inter-co transfers for Consumer Finance and/or Vehicle Solution receipts
    13. Preparing regular updates on unallocated cash to be distributed to the management teamEnsure compliance with all relevant legislation and specifically that which relates to Data Protection, Money Laundering and Treating the Customer Fairly ('TCF') and attend update training as may be required from time to time.
    14. To ensure compliance with SOX requirements you need to ensure ongoing compliance with the following objectives
    15. The bank reconciliation process is currently a manual process. Working with the Financial Controller, this role will be responsible for implementing new auto-matching functionality that is being rolled out as part of Project Fusion. This role will be responsible for reconciling all 10 accounts:
  • an understanding of your process
  • awareness of responsibilities for control within the process
  • confirmation that controls are operating
  • exceptions to controls are raised with your line manager
  • being open to ensure that the testing process can identify any issues
  • undertaking agreed remediation to correct any weakness

Relevant Skills and Qualifications:

  • An accounting qualification is not mandatory but would be advantageous
  • Advanced Excel skills

PAST EXPERIENCE:

  • The candidate should have experience of completing bank reconciliations
  • Leasing experience together with experience of Alfa and Oracle would be preferential
