Working at Nationwide

A financial service provider with a difference

Nationwide is the world's largest building society as well as one of the UK's largest savings providers and a top-three provider of mortgages in the UK.  Headquartered in Swindon and with offices in locations such as Sheffield, Bournemouth and Dunfermline, as well as around six contact centres, a network of hubs and 700 branches across the UK, it’s also a major provider of current accounts, credit cards, ISAs and personal loans. However, you’ll discover that Nationwide is different from other financial service providers.

Unlike banks, Nationwide is a building society, owned by its members. It’s a mutual society, which means that it doesn’t have to pay dividends to shareholders and all profits are put back into the society for the benefit of members.

For more than 130 years, Nationwide has supported its members to make the most of their money and achieve what they want from life. Today, around 15 million people are members of Nationwide, which means it has a relationship with almost a quarter of the UK’s population.

If you join Nationwide, you’ll find it’s an organisation that’s focused on doing things in the best way possible, both for members and employees – and you’ll have the opportunity to make a real difference.

Working for better communities and a better world

For example, Nationwide believes everyone should have a place fit to call home. Based on feedback from members, the building society is finding local solutions to national housing issues by working with members and colleagues to make a long-lasting difference to their communities.

It’s also working hard to become a more sustainable and responsible business. In April 2020, Nationwide reached a huge milestone, when 100% of its business operations became carbon neutral.

PRIDE inspires everyone to do the right thing

To sum up what Nationwide is all about, the society set out its values in the form of ‘PRIDE’ in 2002. For 20 years, as the organisation states, PRIDE has been the foundation of 'how we do things around here'. PRIDE inspires everyone to do the right thing – and decisions, large and small, are measured using the PRIDE values, which are:

  • Putting our members first
  • Rising to the challenge
  • Inspiring trust
  • Doing the right thing
  • Empowering each other

We’re helping Nationwide find new colleagues who will bring out the best in each other, to create a place where differences are treasured, and you can feel valued for who you are, not just what you do.

If you’d like to work for an organisation where both members and colleagues feel welcomed, supported and heard, to use your skills and experience to make Nationwide stronger for its members – and enjoy all the benefits that come with being an employee of the world’s biggest building society – then the search for your ideal job starts right here.
