Tracey Shapley

Business Improvement Manager

Q: How did you get to your current position?
A: Like a lot of people recruitment found me, I walked into an agency and the rest is history.... I started as a permanent consultant, moved to run a temps desk and then Management. The industry has given me so many opportunities and still continues to do so. If you work hard and deliver on your promises there is so much scope and I genuinely enjoy what I do.

Q: What qualities do you look for in your team and why?
A: Strong work ethic, winning mentality, wanting to be the best you can be, great communicator and a good sense of humour. Success is all about what you do and you need the drive and determination to make it happen.

Q: What has been the biggest challenge in your career to date so far and why?
A: The role is always challenging but external factors such as the economy have been the toughest to date. When I have had internal challenges I have always managed to turn these around and get the best results. When the factors are out of your control it is harder to manage, although I have learnt that there are always ways to make money but its tougher when outside factors affect your plans.

Q: What advice would you give a younger you starting out in your career?
A: Take advantage of all that is offered in your organisation and think about how it can help you deliver the best service and results and keep it simple. Take an idea and make it work for you in a style that you are comfortable with.

Q: What motivates you and why? What gets you up in the morning?
A: Doing a great job, seeing the outcomes of the projects I work on and the positive impact they have on people and the business.
Working with a team of like-minded people who share the same values and vision makes going to work rewarding.

Q: What is you most memorable career moment?
A: Taking the worst performing region in my first regional role, and turning it into the most profitable in a year was a great feeling. Showing the staff that it could be done and working with them to achieve success was a fantastic!

Q: What are your interests and hobbies outside of work?
A: I love walking my dog, spending time with my teenage daughters, reading and generally enjoying myself. Eating out, horse riding, and having fun with friends and family are what I enjoy.

Q: Favourite film
A: That’s a hard one but I recently watched officer and a gentleman and had forgotten how good it was! I also love any bond film!

Q: Best book
A: So many but I loved the Kite Runner
