Q: How did you get to your current position? 
I started with Tate in February 1998 as a Permanent Consultant in our Chandlers Ford office following a number of years in management in the travel industry.  In 2001 I was promoted to a Permanent Division Team Leader where I looked after a small team.  A couple of years later, I was promoted to Operations Manager, a role I remained in whilst I brought up my family.   I was always willing to take on additional responsibilities and during my time as Operations Manager I deputised for my Regional Director when she was out of the business.  In October 2015, I was promoted to my current position as Regional Director for the South East and now look after 6 offices.

Q: What qualities do you look for in your team and why?

I look for people who naturally live and breathe our core values.  A strong work ethic is critical together with resilience and a keen desire to be successful.  A caring and respectful approach to others is an absolute expectation of mine not only when working as part of a team but I look for a genuine passion for demonstrating the same behaviours externally when dealing with our candidates and clients. 

Q: What has been the biggest challenge in your career to date and why?
The recession was undoubtedly the most challenging time I have worked in.  Unlike many competitors we didn’t look to diversify into other sectors but we kept to what we were good at.  We weren’t targeted with ridiculous sales targets to gain vacancies when there weren’t many but we spent our time supporting clients and candidates at a very challenging time.   The recession affected everyone, but for me, it was also a rewarding time as I was working for a company that genuinely cared about providing an empathetic service.  This was when Tate instigated the Tate Guides to support candidates and clients which are still accessible on our website.

Q: What advice would you give to a younger 'you' starting out in your career?
Work hard, be respectful always to everyone you meet, care about the work you do and your customers.  Be honest and always try to make a difference!

Q: What motivates you and why? What gets you up in the morning?

Working with great people who genuinely care about what they do and whom inspire me!

Q: What is your most memorable career moment?
Being recognised for my performance.  Branch of the Year and Permanent Consultant of the Year!

Q: What are your interests and hobbies outside of work?
I have 5 children, 3 of which are step children, a springer spaniel and 2 cats so I have my hands full most of the time with a full time job,  football and horseriding!  In my spare moments, I enjoy running!

Q: What is your favourite film?
I love a good comedy… ‘Grown Ups’ has to be one of my favourites.

Q: Best book you've read?
I have to say that I just don’t have time to read and therefore I would be telling a porkie pie if I just said a title of a book!  At least I am honest! 
